ICBL successfully staged the preliminary rounds of the 2019 ICBL Junior Spelling Bee last Thursday amidst a buzz of excitement. Several students swarmed the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre to compete in the competition, in order to gain an opportunity to compete in the upcoming finals.
Students, teachers and parents waited eagerly in anticipation of the start of the event and were wowed by the impressive set, designed specifically for the competition. The set included a large LED screen, which featured the vibrant ICBL Junior Spelling Bee logo, the countdown clock and rows of chairs, which carried the numbers assigned to the contestants.
ICBL’s Marketing Executive, Sharleen Browne, highlighted the extensive list of prizes donated by several sponsors and Head of Marketing & Communications, Averil Byer, restated the company’s commitment to youth development and outlined the rules to ensure a smooth process.
Several sponsors from across the private sector donated an array of prizes for the winning students and schools. The Spelling BEE Champion will take home a challenge trophy, a combined cash prize of $3000 and two tickets to the UK compliments Virgin Atlantic, a tablet and several other prizes. The winning school will receive a winning plaque, a cash prize of $5000 and a laser jet printer.
Eighty – four (84) children from various schools across the island competed throughout the day. By the end of the day, forty – two (42) students had advanced to the Spelling Bee finals.
The ICBL Junior Spelling Bee 2019 Finals will take place on October 25th, from 2:00 p.m. at Sandals Royal Barbados where the Junior Spelling Bee Champion will be crowned.
