ICBL has the privilege of owning and occupying the location of the former Modern High School. Yesterday, December 20, 2020, the Modern High School old Scholars Association undertook an official ceremony for the unveiling of a commemorative plaque to honour the late Principal Louis Albert Dewitt Lynch, who was a pioneer in education and influenced the lives of thousands of Barbadians.

Attending the event were several Modern High School Alumni and guest speaker, Lt. Col. The Hon. Jeffrey Bostic, M.P., Minister of Health and Wellness., and ICBL’s CEO Geoff Scott. In extending his congratulations to the old scholars, the CEO said: “We at ICBL are proud to be the caretakers of this lovely location on Roebuck street. As you can see, we have started a renovation of this space - which is being used by our staff during their lunch breaks.”
Scott said that ICBL planned to make more enhancements early in 2021, so that the location could be anchored by the lovely memorial of Louis Lynch, filled with memories of the Modern High School.
He further stated: “I am also very proud to tell you that ICBL is partnering with the Roebuck Street Redevelopment Trust, which is a charitable organization established to bring back the vitality of Roebuck Street. Two of ICBL’s former Board members, Sir Trevor Carmichael and Sir Paul Altman, serve on the Trust’s board.
Some of the initiatives include beautification, improved lighting, and accessibility. Our own property, which includes our Head Office building and the Weymouth Corporate Centre - are flagship locations on Roebuck street, and we intend to be a driving force in the ongoing improvements to our neighborhood.”
